Key on top form against Hampshire

County Championship Division Two, Canterbury

Close, day two: Hampshire 405-9 dec v Kent 200-1

Rob Key's unbeaten century helped Kent fight back strongly after Hampshire declared on 405-9 at Canterbury.

Resuming on 263-3, Michael Carberry added just 17 runs before being dismissed for 154, while Sean Ervine made a steady 72 off 161 balls.

But following the visitors' declaration and the early loss of Sam Northeast for eight, Kent responded positively.

Key (105) and Daniel Bell-Drummond (74) shared an unbeaten partnership of 163 to leave the hosts 200-1, 205 behind.

It was 19-year-old Bell-Drummond's highest Championship score and he benefitted from batting in tandem with former skipper Key, whose century was his 49th in first-class cricket.
